DeKalb Chamber: Tell us about your
responsibilities.
Stone Ridge: I oversee and handle
operations of the event center, including
sales and marketing. This was a start
up, so I have worn every hat at times
from janitor to event manager. In the
first year we went from an unknown
entity, to people having book a year
ahead to get a Saturday date, which
took a monumental effort. This was no
small feat as I took this venture on at
the age of 57. Of course none of this
would have been possible had it not
been for my husband and several of
our children. (My husband and I were
the designers of this facility).
I also get the privilege of working with
some of our children every day! One
of the exciting things about operating
Stone Ridge Event Center is the diversity
that comes through our doors. A
recent Somalian customer said it this
way, “Mrs. Laurie, the world is coming
to you.” It is a real treat witnessing
so many different cultural traditions. I
love what I do and am excited to bring
to DeKalb County such a lovely venue.
I tell our customers that the least fun
part of my job is not seeing our clients
again once their journey here is over…
that is how much I love my job!
